Case: A. Le Coq Expands Electric Fleet with Volvo Trucks to Accelerate Greener Logistics in Estonia

A. Le Coq, part of the Olvi Group, took a major step toward cleaner logistics in 2025 by adding two Volvo FM Electric trucks to its operations. With four heavy-duty electric trucks now in use, the company operates Estonia’s largest electric fleet of this kind and has become a clear leader in sustainable transport. This move reflects both A. Le Coq’s long-term commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and the increasing expectations from customers, partners, and municipalities for cleaner delivery solutions.
Why A. Le Coq electrified its fleet
Transport emissions had become one of the company’s most significant environmental challenges. The goal was not only to reduce CO₂ output but also to cut noise and air pollution in the surrounding delivery areas. The company also wanted to validate whether electric heavy-duty vehicles could match the demands of daily regional and urban logistics, particularly in terms of range, uptime, and cost efficiency.
How was the project implemented
The transition required a coordinated effort between logistics, procurement, sustainability teams, and key external partners. Volvo Trucks provided the vehicles and technical expertise, while energy company Alexela built a modern charging park at A. Le Coq’s Tartu facility, equipped with both AC and DC fast charging. Importantly, all charging is powered by 100% renewable electricity.
Drivers and maintenance teams received dedicated training to adapt to electric vehicle operation. Route planning and daily operations were adjusted to optimise range of up to 250 km, and charging was integrated into existing schedules. The approach balanced adopting new technology with practical considerations, ensuring deliveries remained reliable as the fleet evolved.
What the project achieved
The electrification initiative achieved its main goals: reducing emissions, maintaining delivery reliability, and proving that heavy-duty electric trucks are feasible for everyday logistics in Estonia. With four electric trucks now in operation, A. Le Coq has reduced an estimated 80 tons of CO₂ annually. The trucks also reduce noise significantly, allowing early-morning and late-evening deliveries without disturbing residents— an important benefit in urban areas.
Operationally, the electric fleet has delivered results similar to diesel trucks, with cost-per-kilometer remaining competitive when charged during off-peak hours or with self-generated green electricity. Drivers report improved comfort, and the company has gained valuable data on energy consumption, charging patterns, and route efficiency, all of which support long-term planning.
A. Le Coq has embraced electric trucks as a strategic step to reduce its transport footprint, seeing them as part of the company’s broader sustainability principles. A. Le Coq CEO Jaanus Vihand noted that the experience has been very positive.
“The vehicles require no changes in distribution logistics and perform reliably even in winter, which is very important to us given our Northern European location. Sustainability is central to our company’s values and the way we operate, and by setting an example, we aim to inspire wider positive change.”
Looking ahead
This project has laid the foundation for broader fleet electrification. A. Le Coq plans to expand its electric fleet as the technology and charging network grow. Performance data will continue to guide future decisions and feed into sustainability reporting.
By demonstrating that heavy-duty electric logistics is both practical and impactful, A. Le Coq has positioned itself as a national trailblazer. The project has become a scalable model for sustainable transport in Estonia’s food and beverage sector and strengthens the whole Olvi Group’s journey toward removing CO2 emission from its operations.
